Straightforward answers about what Maqam does — and what it doesn't.
Is this a replacement for my teacher?
No — and it isn't trying to be. A teacher corrects your rulings and hears things no software can. Maqam is the practice mirror between sessions: it shows you, precisely, how your sound compares to the Qari you're studying, so the time with your teacher goes further.
Does Maqam judge tajwīd rules?
Maqam measures acoustics — melody, pacing, pauses, endings, stability, and vibrato — against your chosen Qari's recitation. It does not issue rulings on the validity of your recitation. Sound is measurable; rulings belong to teachers.
Which Qaris can I follow?
Twelve at launch: Maher Al-Muaiqly, Yasser Al-Dosari, Mishary Rashid al-Afasy, Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, Abdul Basit Abdul Samad, Abu Bakr al-Shatri, Ahmad Al-Nufais, Khalifah Al-Tunaiji, Mahmoud Khalil Al-Husary, Muhammad Siddiq Al-Minshawi, Saud Al-Shuraym, and Saad Al-Ghamdi.
Do I need to be an advanced reciter?
You should be comfortable reading the mushaf and reciting an ayah on your own. If you can do that and you want your recitation closer to the Qari's, you're exactly who this was built for. Complete beginners should start with tajwīd basics first.
What happens to my recordings?
Recordings are processed temporarily for analysis and then removed from our servers. If you choose to save an attempt, it is stored on your device only. A full privacy policy ships with the app at launch.
How much will it cost?
Pricing will be announced at launch. Joining the waitlist costs nothing and needs no card — you'll simply hear first.
When does it launch, and on what platforms?
iOS and Android — we're aiming to launch on both at the same time. The waitlist gets the launch email before anyone else.
Is the Qur'anic text handled respectfully?
Yes. The text is rendered as it appears in a mushaf — never animated, distorted, or decorated. All analysis and animation apply to the audio of your voice, not to the words themselves.
Does it work offline?
Scoring requires a network connection because analysis runs in the cloud. Downloaded reference audio and reader content are available offline.
Can I duet with a friend live?
Coming Soon. Not yet.
Does audio sync across devices?
No. Only your scores and progress sync when you sign in. Audio saves remain on the device where they were recorded.
Can it tell if I sound like a specific Qari?
No. Maqam performs pattern comparison against a reference. It does not identify voices and does not claim your voice matches any particular reciter.
